OpEx reduction and improved personnel safety Modernize efficiency by visually confirming power flow direction, seamlessly assessing networks, and rapidly identifying faults. Understanding power flow direction is crucial for several reasons. It aids in fault detection and localization within the distribution network. Additionally, it enables more effective control of the grid, which is essential for maintaining stability and reliability. This is particularly important amidst the variability introduced by renewable generation. With this knowledge, utilities can optimize load balancing across the network, ensuring efficient energy distribution and preventing overloading of specific components. Moreover, power flow direction assists in voltage regulation, facilitates asset management, and enables swift response and recovery efforts during disruptions, ultimately enhancing grid resilience. Identifying faults swiftly enhances efficiency for utility operations executives by minimizing downtime and optimizing resource allocation. It also elevates personnel safety, ushering in a new era of streamlined operations and enhanced safety protocols by bidding farewell to over-patrolling hazardous terrains.
Grid Analytics Solutions help decrease the number of outages that occur due to missing prediction data and a lack of resources by providing data-driven insights that allow you to target your resources on the areas that are most likely to fail.
Our Grid Analytics Solutions provide:
Reduce duration and frequency of outages to improve SAIDI and SAIFI
The exchange of power, with contributions from distributed resources and more complicated consumption tied to renewable resources is adding complexity to power grids.
Renewable resources add harmonics to the grid which causes stress on electrical assets. Power flow is now multi-directional and less stable, and the growing use of electrical vehicles and DC charging stations contribute to additional stresses on power grids.
To manage these increasing risks real-time grid analytics tracking is essential to get a better understanding of the grid’s performance and to ensure an efficient and smooth transition into renewables as they become an even more important part in our industry.
Earlier identification of potential hazards
Intermittent faults, broken conductors, and high impedance faults pose significant challenges for utilities, often resulting in wasted time, resources, and customer dissatisfaction. These elusive issues can lead to prolonged outages, costly repairs, and a decline in service quality. However, with Megger Grid Analytics' (MGA) advanced high-precision measurement technology, these challenges are effectively addressed.
MGA's innovative solution empowers utilities to swiftly identify and address these issues, facilitating early detection of potential hazards before they escalate. By leveraging MGA's capabilities, utilities can proactively mitigate risks, minimize downtime, and ensure reliable service delivery, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction and preserving the integrity of their operations.
Our solution stands out with its unmatched product quality, efficiency, precision, and advanced algorithms, guaranteeing superior performance on all networks, even those with compensated Peterson-coil configurations. With the ability to operate at low current levels, facilitated by extremely high-resolution sensors and robust power harvesting capabilities (as evidenced by over 100 sensors installed on challenging networks with zero issues), we ensure reliable data collection and analysis. Achieving an exceptional accuracy of 0.5 % on current measurements, equivalent to traditional systems like current transformers, our solution provides reliable performance. Additionally, our sensors harvest power directly from the line, enhancing operational flexibility and reducing dependency on external power sources.
Our sensors are exceptionally robust, operating in extreme conditions from the Nordkyn Arctic Circle to CIE Africa at the equator. With global support that transcends geographical boundaries and the capability to communicate anywhere, even without a cellular network, we ensure grid efficiency regardless of location.
Elevating system reliability and reducing SAIDI significantly while proactively mitigating wildfire risks through resource-smart vegetation management is crucial. This approach relies on detecting high-impedance faults with low current thresholds, identifying intermittent/transient faults, and meticulously analysing monitoring data to pinpoint grid vulnerabilities.
Traditional time-based tree-trimming maintenance proves ineffective, especially with fluctuating vegetation growth rates due to weather conditions. Instead, adopting a priority-based approach offers significant efficiency gains by enabling prompt action upon detecting vegetation encroachment. High impedance faults resulting from tree contact with power lines pose fire risks, highlighting the importance of Megger Grid Analytics line sensors, which detect and locate these faults for proactive asset management. Furthermore, the versatility and efficiency of the MS5000 sensor, with its high-resolution waveform analytics, enable utilities to transition from reactive to predictive maintenance, ensuring optimal grid performance and safety.
